Gunther Eysenbach, MD, MPH, FACMI, has a life-long passion for information and communication technologies and medical information, and has been recognized as the most impactful medical informatician in the world. He studied medicine, computer science, and public health, and, as a medical student, wrote books and worked for a major scholarly publisher as an Editor. He is a visionary who recognized the importance of the internet for both medical information dissemination as well scholarly publishers in the 90s, became a pioneer of the gold Open-Access movement, created one of the first open-access journals, co-founded the OASPA (Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association), and built a respected global publishing firm known for its quality and forward-thinking innovations (one of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies). He is also the co-inventor of TrendMD, a company he co-founded as Chief Science Officer, which is another avenue to disseminate scientific information in a targeted manner. Gunther spends most of his time as President of JMIR Publications, but also invests in innovative startups in medicine and science as an angel investor, holds the position of Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria, and is working on his charitable organization to help authors from developing countries publish their work.
When he is not surfing the internet, he can be found kitesurfing, snowkiting, or SUPing.
I appreciate the innovations and collaborations taking place throughout the JMIR community. It is exciting to be in a role that supports the sharing of health research and technology in improving health and health care around the world.
I am a “foodie” who is lucky enough to live in Toronto, the world’s most culturally diverse city, with a wealth of excellent restaurants from which to choose. In my spare time, I can be found at a local movie theatre taking in the latest offerings or travelling.
My main motivation comes from providing excellent service to the leaders in the health sciences space with whom I interact.

I am passionate about people and processes—I work to make it possible for teams to do their best work every day. I am responsible for the employee experience at JMIR Publications.
I try to learn something new everyday, which allows me to grow as an individual. My goal is to always be a better version of myself than I was the day before. My guilty pleasure is "so-called" reality TV.
As a former doctoral student and open-access journal founder, I am passionate about the need for accessible high-quality research.
I am happy to talk about my moonlighting as an archaeologist, although there are rather fewer golden temples, rolling boulders, or dinosaurs than you’d believe!

Effective communication of research can empower patients and health care practitioners to make the right choices for their health. Therefore, I aim to bridge the gap between research and its communication by helping authors translate their bench work into the written word effectively.
My interests include a capella music, dogs, and food, but mostly dogs. Dogs are the best!

I'm motivated by the chance to contribute to a seamless and efficient publication process, creating satisfaction for authors and readers and ensuring that research is disseminated as effectively as possible.
My passion is travelling, and I always like to have my next trip on the horizon.

I like taking photos, spending time in nature, and taking photos of nature.
